Fall Skin Care
How to keep your skin healthy this Fall?
8th September, 2021
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how the change of season can bring new challenges to your skin and show you ways how to successfully to make transition into new season.
It’s time to start repairing and preparing your skin for what the cooler seasons bring. Dryness, dullness increased sensitivity, winds and cold air can play havoc on the skin.
Let’s take a look at some tips that will ensure your skin is just as healthy in the cold as it was it the heat.
Switch to a Thicker Moisturizer
Just like a switch to heavier clothing is needed to avoid the cold, you need to thicken up your moisturizer to keep your skin healthy. Consider using a heavy cream made of ceramides, which basically act like healthy fatty acids that develop naturally in the skin. Moisturizing and protecting the skin is important, because rain, wind and rapid changes in air temperature, and indoor heat may see your skin looking a little dull and this will ensure you keep your skin barrier happy. Now is the time to renovate your cosmetic shelf and replace your summer cosmetics with more weather-appropriate ones.
Use a Lip Moisturizer
Fall skin care includes lips. With decreasing humidity comes increasingly dry skin and lips. Make sure you choose a good lip balm that you can slather on every morning, after you eat, and before bedtime.
Focus on Exfoliation
Fall is the best time to exfoliate your skin. It helps us to get rid of dead skin cells, grime, dirt lodged in our pores and excess sebum. Other than that, exfoliation helps us fade spots, hyperpigmentation and blemishes that we may have acquired during the summer. When it comes to exfoliation, less is more. Once a week is recommended
Eat Seasonally
Go beyond topical skincare. It is important to compliment your skincare routine with a nutritional and seasonal diet. As the cooler months approach and skin tends to start drying out eat water rich foods ( cucumber, tomato, lettuce, apples, watermelon ) for an extra boost! Your cells will love you for it.
Add Vitamin C To Your Regimen
Vitamin C serum locks in moisture, plumps the skin and helps in the production of collagen, which is why it is one product that you should keep on using all year long. Stopping just because it's winter could increase the risks of losing collagen and getting more wrinkles and lines. This is an excellent addition to any skincare routine and is suitable and recommended for all skin types.
Take Shorter Showers
Even if a long, hot shower is what warms you up on cold days, it might not be doing your skin any favours. This way only the skin loses natural oils in your skin, drying it out. So try not to shower for more than 10 minutes and make sure the water isn’t scalding hot. For maximum benefit use the second you step out of the shower use body moisturizer within 5 minutes to lock in your skin’s natural moisture
Wear SPF All Year Around
Sun is also active enough in autumn, it is important to choose skin care products with additional protection. UV rays are still at work causing wrinkles, dark spots and aging the skin. Not only does it protect your skin, it also works to reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines over time, so you're actually improving your skin while wearing it. The biggest undoing you can make when it comes to your skincare routine is skipping this step.
